Alexandra Leslie of Rochester Named Preseason First Team All-American

University of Rochester senior post player Alexandra Leslie has been named as a pre-season First Team All-American by D3hoops.com.

 
This marks the second consecutive year that Leslie has been named as a pre-season First Team All-American by D3hooops.com. It is her second pre-season honor with the 2017-18 season just days away. Leslie was named the pre-season Division III Player of the Year in women's basketball by Women's DIII News.
 
As a junior last season, she earned three All-America honors: First Team All-American by the Women's Basketball Coaches Association, Second Team All-American by D3hoops.com, and by Women's DIII News. She averaged 21.9 ppg. last season, the fourth highest scoring total in a season (590 points in 27 games). She also averaged 9.7 ppg. and 2.1 apg. while shooting 56.5% from the floor (225-398). She shot 83.5% from the foul line (137-164), had 44 blocks, and a9 steals. She was ranked in the top 15 in Division III in three categories and in the top 100 players in 14 categories overall. She was fourth in field goals made.
 
Leslie was a finalist for The Josten's Trophy, an award presented by the Salem (VA) Rotary Club for a combination of athletic skill, academic achievement, and community service. She was an Academic All-District honoree by the College Sports Information Directors of America and has been named to the University Athletic Association's All-Academic Team as a sophomore and a junior.
 
The Lancaster, PA native (Manheim Township HS) has been a First Team All-UAA player in each of her first three seasons. She was the UAA Rookie of the Year in 2014-15 as well as the D3hoops.com National Rookie of the Year. She was the UAA Co-Player of the Year in 2015-16. In her first three seasons, she has seven All-America honors: three from the WBCA, two from D3hoops.com, two from Women's DIII News.
 
She is joined on the D3hoops.com All-America team by two UAA opponents: Madeline Homoly (Washington-St. Louis) was named to the Second Team. Ashley Oldshue (Emory University) was named to the Fourth Team.
 
Rochester may see two First Team All-America selections in tournaments this year. Abby Owings is a guard for Thomas More College of Kentucky. Thomas More will play in Rochester's Chuck Resler Invitational Tournament on November 17-18 (11/17 vs. Calvin College of Grands Rapids, MI). UR will play NCAA Division III National Runnerup Tufts University in the first round of the Williams College Tournament on December 1. Melissa Baptista of the Jumbos is a First Team honoree.
 
In a pre-season poll of the UAA head coaches, Rochester was picked as the pre-season favorite to win the league title. The University of Chicago was picked second with defending UAA champion Washington-St. Louis placed third, and NYU fourth.
 
Rochester is ranked in the top 25 by two pre-season basketball polls and is among Others Receiving Votes in a third poll. UR is ranked No. 21 by D3hoops.com and No. 24 by the WBCA. The Yellowjackets are among Others Receiving Votes by Women's DIII News.
