Alexandra Leslie of Rochester Named WBCA 1st Team All-American

From University of Rochester Athletics

Alexandra Leslie
was already one of the best players in the University of Rochester women's basketball history. Now she has joined an ultra-elite class, becoming only the 18th person in Rochester athletics history, and first UR women's basketball player, to earn All-American honors in four straight years.

Leslie was named a 1st Team All-American by the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA), for her fourth honor in her career on Thursday, her second straight on the WBCA's first team.

Overall in her career, the Lancaster, PA native has accumulated eight All-American awards. She was Honorable Mention as a first-year and sophomore by the WBCA, bumping that up to 1st Team honors in her junior and senior seasons. From D3hoops.com, she was 1st Team as a sophomore and 2nd Team as a junior, and was also named a 3rd Team DIII News All-American as a sophomore.

This season, the senior led the team by scoring 14.7 points per game and pulling down 7.8 rebounds per contest, while also setting new career highs in assists (67), blocked shots (51) and steals (27).  She shot 52% from the field (172-330), made 81% from the free throw line (78-96) and averaged a team-high 28.7 minutes per game.

Leslie was a 1st Team All-UAA selection in 2017-18, becoming the first UR basketball player (men's or women's) to be 1st Team in all four years. She ranked first in the conference in blocked shots, second in field goal percentage, third in total rebounds, free throw percentage and field goals made, and was seventh overall in points per game.

Additionally, she garnered 1st Team All-East Region honors from D3hoops.com and was a finalist for the Josten's Trophy for the second time.

For her career, Leslie ranks among the leaders in nearly every statistical category at Rochester. She is second in career scoring with 1,848 points, scoring average (16.8 ppg), blocks (145), games started (110), minutes played (3,071) and is tied for second in total rebounds (992).  Leslie also is first in Rochester history in free throws made with 468 and free throw percentage, making them at a 84.2% clip.

In 2017-18, UR reached the NCAA Division III Quarterfinals (Elite 8), for the second time in the last three seasons. Overall, the Yellowjackets played in three NCAA Tournaments during Leslie's career and accumulated a four-year record of 80-30.

Leslie's excellence extends beyond the court as well. She was honored as a Garnish Scholar Athlete in the fall, an award which recognizes Rochester's top senior student athletes. Because of her strong work in the classroom, the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) also voted Leslie as 1st Team Academic All-District for the second year in a row, while she earned a spot on the UAA's All-Academic team for the third straight season.
