Liv Linebarger's Late Three-Pointer Sends NYU Past Mount Aloysius

From NYU Athletics

Liv Linebarger's three-pointer with two seconds left propelled the New York University women's basketball team to a 59-57 win over Mount Aloysius College in the NYU Tip-Off Classic on Saturday, November 18, at the Sportsplex in Manhattan.

The Violets (2-0) trailed 57-56 after the Mounties' (1-1) Abby Kulick drove and scored a layup with 58 ticks remaining.

Neither team had scored again when NYU called a timeout with seven seconds left. The ball was inbounded to Kaitlyn Read. She was double-teamed and sent it out to a wide-open Linebarger who calmly sank the trey.

"Credit Mount Aloysius for great defense on the play," said NYU Head Coach Lauren Hall-Gregory. "They forced the ball out of Kaitlyn's hands. She made a smart pass and Liv came through for us."

Read led NYU with 17 points, nine of which came in the third quarter when the Violets went from trailing 35-31 at halftime to leading 48-42 after three quarters. NYU increased its lead to as many as nine points in the fourth before the Mounties mounted their comeback.

"Close games like these will help us when we get to UAA (University Athletic Association) play," Hall-Gregory explained. "And to win the close games are even better."
