Ashley Oldshue of Emory Travels To Brazil With Division III Women's Basketball Team

From Emory University Athletics

Emory University's Ashley Oldshue is part of a group of United States D-3 women's basketball players who will be touring Brazil.

A rising junior for the 2017-18 Eagles' squad, Oldshue is one of nine players venturing to South America for a four-game slate of games, while also experiencing the numerous cultural and social opportunities that part of the world has to offer.

The team will convene for an orientation in Orlando on July 17 before departing for Sao Paulo, Brazil, where it will practice on the 18th.  Following the practice, the women's team, along with an accompanying D-3 men's squad, will conduct a youth clinic at the Club Jundiense. The USA D-3 Teams will play a doubleheader on July 19 in the city of Araraquara, which is located in Sao Paulo. The following day, the teams will venture to Rio de Janeiro where they will match up against Mesquita on the 22nd, Queimados on the 23rd and Fluminese on the 24th. The group will depart Brazil the night of the 25th and return to the USA on the 26th.  Serving as the head coach of the women's team will be Bob Amsberry of Wartburg College.

Among the sites the teams will visit include the Christ the Redeemer Statue and Sugar Loaf Mountain, two of the most recognizable landmarks in the world.

The 6-foot-2 Oldshue enjoyed a breakout 2016-17 season that saw her captured First Team All-University Athletic Association honors.  She started all 25 Emory contests and ranked among the conference's top 10 performers in a host of statistical categories. A double-figure score on 24 occasions, she tossed in a team-high 16.5 points per game, good for fifth place on the league ladder.  She ranked as Emory's top scorer in nine games and tallied 20 or more points in five outings. Oldshue was successful on a team-high 55.4 percent (150 of 271) from the floor, placing third in the UAA and fifth on the program's seasonal list.  The team's leading rebounder in 11 outings, her per-game average of 7.1 ranked sixth in the UAA. She turned in four games with 10 or more boards.
