Kaitlyn Read of the New York University women's basketball team was named Women's Division III College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) All-America First Team on Wednesday, March 14. 

The graduate student is the first NYU women's basketball player to ever receive Academic All-America honors and just the fourth NYU student-athlete to be named a First Team All-American by CoSIDA. In all, 22 Violets have been tabbed as either First, Second or Third Team Academic All-America by CoSIDA since 1992.

Joining Read as First Team Academic All-Americans are Samm Chandler (Averett University), Mikaela Eppert (Elmhurst College), Emma McDonald (Ripon College), Brianna Moore (Bridgewater College), and Emily Perszyk (Washington and Lee University)

Read, who was recently named the East Region Player of the Year, University Athletic Association Player of the Year and UAA Defensive Player of the Year, was also selected to receive the prestigious Jostens Trophy. The four-time First Team All-UAA guard led the Association in scoring (19.9 ppg) and steals (3.8 spg) this season and also finished second in assists (5.1 apg), while setting NYU single-season records for points (577) and assists (148). Additionally, Read completed her career #2 on NYU's all-time scoring list (1,839), #1 in assists (429) and #2 in steals (400). 

Read, who is a two-time CoSIDA Academic All-District 3 recipient and four-time UAA All-Academic honoree, completed her undergraduate work in May of 2017 with a double-major in politics and Spanish and is now working towards a master's degree in global affairs with a concentration in transnational security.

To be eligible for Academic All-America consideration, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.3 on a scale of 4.0, and have reached sophomore athletic and academic standings at his/her current institution.
