From NYU Athletics
The New York University women's fencing team hosted the
NYU Invitational at the Cobra Fencing Club in Jersey City, NJ on
Sunday, January 25. The Violets competed against six teams,
including four ranked among the top-10 nationally.
NYU (1-12) began the day against #3 Ohio State University,
falling to the Buckeyes 24-3. Next the Violets took on Wayne State
University and earned their first victory of the season in a 14-13
win over the Warriors. In the third round of competition, NYU faced
#8 St. John's University, but fell to the Red Storm
20-7.
Yale University was next up for NYU, but the Violets suffered
their closest defeat of the day to the Bulldogs, 18-9. In round
five, the Violets met top-ranked University of Notre Dame and fell
to the Fighting Irish 24-3. In its final contest of the day, NYU
squared off with #9 Northwestern University and fell
27-0.
Highlights:
- NYU's epee team swept Wayne State 9-0, and defeated Yale
5-4.
- Marissa Posner led the Violets' epee
squad with seven wins while Stephanie
Cunningham won five.
- Senior captain Audra Fox earned five
victories in foil on the day.
