From NYU Athletics
The New York University women's fencing team competed at the
U.S. Collegiate Squad Championships at Drew University in Madison,
NJ, on Sunday, February 22.
The Violets' epee team of Cailyn
Chiah, Stephanie
Cunningham, Marissa Posner,
and Joanna Tabor finished in fifth place.
In the first round, the squad fell to Sacred Heart University by a
score of 45-32, but battled back to beat host Drew University
(45-17) and Fairleigh Dickenson University (45-40).
OTHER
HIGHLIGHTS:
- The Violets' sabre team of India
Kennedy, Marlena Lui, Juliana
Tobin, and Cydney Williamsfinished in sixth
place. The squad was defeated by Brandeis University in the first
round, but then defeated host Drew. In the final round, the Violets
were defeated by Stevens Institute of Technology by one point
(45-44).
- NYU's foil team of Ciki Chen, Audra
Fox, Kelly Morris, and Yasmeen
Omer finished seventh. The Violets were defeated by the
University of Pennsylvania and then Sacred
Heart.
"I'm very proud of the way we all fenced," said Head
Coach Steve Mormando. "The teams kept fighting and
gave their all. I'm very proud of the result."
