The New York University women's fencing team competed in a tri-meet on Thursday, November 5, at Stevens Institute of Technology in Hoboken, NJ.
The Violets opened the meet by falling to Stevens by a score of 16-11. They then came back to handily defeat the New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT) 23-4.
A pair of rookies led the way for NYU. Anastasiya Muravyeva won all six of her foil matches, defeating both Stevens and NJIT three times each, while Jacqueline Tubbs also earned a perfect record in the meet, finishing 5-0 in sabre.
"Our freshmen were terrific," said NYU Head Coach Steve Mormando. "They did a tremendous job and I'm very proud of them."
HIGHLIGHTS:
- Sophomore Stephanie Cunningham went 4-2 in epee, including a 3-0 record against NJIT.
- Another freshman, Hannah Bennet, posted a 3-1 overall epee record on the night.
