The New York University women's fencing team competed at the Tradition Tournament on Sunday, December 6, at Sacred Heart University in Fairfield, CT.
The Violets went 1-5 over six rounds of competition. In their first three rounds, NYU lost to Penn State University (20-7), Princeton University (21-6) and Temple University (21-6). The squad then defeated Vassar College by a score of 19-8 before falling to Harvard University (22-5) and host Sacred Heart (18-9) in the final two rounds of the afternoon.
HIGHLIGHTS:
- Freshman Anastasiya Muravyeva went 12-5 in foil and compiled perfect 3-0 records against both Vassar and Sacred Heart.
- Fellow rookies Jacqueline Tubbs and Hannah Bennett also performed well for the Violets. Tubbs finished with a 7-5 record in sabre, while Bennett went 7-8 in epee.
"It was a tough day for the women, but we saw great things from our freshmen, which bodes well for our future," said NYU Assistant Coach Lauren Willock.
