From NYU Athletics

Two members of the New York University women's fencing team have begun competition at the NCAA Championships, which are being held at the Indiana Farmers Coliseum in Indianapolis, IN, from Thursday, March 23, through Sunday, March 26.

Anastasiya Muravyeva and Oliwia Szmilo are representing NYU at the Championships today and tomorrow after five members of the Violets' men team took center stage over the previous two days.

On Saturday, Muravyeva competed in foil and Szumilo took to the strip in sabre.

Both fencers compiled seven wins in their respective weapons. Muravyeva's performance landed her in 13th place, while Szumilo finished the day in 1th place.

Overall, the duo compiled 14 points, which were added to the men's total of 47 accumulated over the first two days of competition. NYU's overall score of 61 points puts the Violets in 11th place in the 20-team competition. Stanford University is just ahead in 10th place with 66 points.

The University of Notre Dame is in first place overall with 152 points.

Each individual bout victory is worth one point for each team, and there are 24 competitors in each weapon. Each fencer faced 15 opponents today and will face the remaining eight tomorrow.
