NYU Competes at Tradition Tournament

The New York University women's fencing team competed at the Tradition Tournament on Sunday, December 4, hosted by Sacred Heart University in Fairfield, CT. 

The Violets started off with losses to Penn State University (23-4), Princeton University (25-2) and Temple University (24-3), before defeating Vassar College 18-9.

NYU fell to Harvard University (22-5) in Round 5 of play and defeated host Sacred Heart (19-8) in the final round to end the day with a 2-4 record.

"We faced some really good teams and came out with a couple of wins," said NYU Head Coach Steve Mormando.

OTHER HIGHLIGHTS:

- Sophomore Anastasiya Muravyeva led the way with a 10-8 overall record in foil. 

- Freshman Oliwia Szumilo led the Violets in sabre with an 8-5 record. The Staten Island, NY, native went a perfect 3-0 against both Vassar and Sacred Heart.

- Freshmen Eileen Wang finished with a 6-7 record in epee.

"Several freshmen were out there leading the charge, and we saw great results," added Mormando.
