Brandeis Finishes 4-2 at NFC Meet to Secure Share of Conference Combined Title

The Brandeis women went 4-2 today to finish the NFC schedule with a 9-3 record, which puts them in third place in the standings.  The Judges finish their NFC schedule tied with Boston College in the overall standings with a 19-3 record.

The Judges suffered defeats to Brown and BC by identical 17-10 scores to open the day. Against the Bears, Brandeis dropped foil and epee, 5-4, and saber, 7-2. In the match with BC, the Judges earned wins over the Eagles in foil epee by 5-4 marks, but a 9-0 saber win was enough to carry the home team to victory. The foil and epee squads went undefeated the rest of the way, as the Judges defeated Dartmouth (18-9), Vassar (19-8), Tufts (16-11) and the Florida club squad (20-7).

The foil squad and epee squads also led the way on the women's side, each going 5-1 on the day. Foil put together a pair of 5-4 wins and one loss coming by the same score. Junior Renee Pite (Woodbridge, Conn. / Amity Regional) led the way with a 10-4 record, while classmate Joanne Carminucci (Brewster, N.Y./North Salem) and sophomore Jessica Gets (Morganville, N.J./Marlborough) each posted eight wins.

Women's epee notched a pair of 9-0 wins, with their only loss being by a 5-4 score. Sophomore Dakota Levy (Merion Station, Pa. / Barrack) led the team in wins on the day with an 11-3 record, while rookie Jamie Noh (New York, N.Y. / Brearley) went 10-2. Senior Liz Feller (Cortlandt Manor, N.Y. / Hendrick Hudson) went 8-1 in epee, but also picked up a saber in the final two matches and went 5-1 against club squads from Florida and Dartmouth. Classmate Laura Broffman (East Norwich, N.Y. / Oyster Bay) led the saber squad with 11 wins, posting a winning record in four of the six matches.
