NYU Competes at NCAA Regionals

From NYU Athletics

The New York University women's fencing team competed at the NCAA Northeast Regional Championships on Sunday, March 11, at Brandeis University in Waltham, MA.

Leading the way for the Violets were Tiffany Luong and Anastasiya Muravyeva, who finished in 13th and 14th, respectively, in foil.

"Tiffany's performance was outstanding for a freshman," said Head Coach Steve Mormando. "She fenced a lot this season, nearly 100 bouts including tournaments, and I think that helped her prepare for what she accomplished today. I am confident that her body of work this season (including a 56-22 dual-meet record) will get her into the NCAA Championships."

Audrey Edgington was tops for NYU in sabre, finishing in 15h place, a few spots ahead of teammates Jacqueline Tubbs (21st place) and Elizabeth Sweetra (22nd place).

In epee, Hannah Bennett was the top Violet with a 20th-place finish, while teammates Stephanie Cunningham (27th place) and Ceara Sweeney (30th place) also finished among the top 30.

Next on the schedule for the Violets is the NCAA National Championships, which will be hosted by Penn State University in University Park, PA, from Thursday-Sunday, March 22-25. The official announcement on qualifiers is scheduled to be made on Tuesday, March 13.
