The New York University women's fencing team won three of its five matches on the first day of competition at the Philadelphia Invitational, which is being hosted by the University of Pennsylvania on Saturday and Sunday, January 20 and 21, in Philadelphia, PA.

The Short Story: NYU fenced against five different opponents on Saturday, picking up wins over Farleigh Dickinson University, Haverford College and the New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT), while falling to both Temple University and Northwestern University. NYU went 8-1 in sabre to help pull out the one-point win over NJIT.

NYU's record now stands at 4-9 this season.
