Sophomore Summer Kitahara (Greenwich, Conn./Rye Country Day) of the Carnegie Mellon University women's golf team was named Division III Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference (ECAC) Women's Golfer of the Month following her play during the Tartans' spring trip south.

Kitahara opened the spring with a fifth-place showing at the TaylorMade-adidas Intercollegiate in a field of 51 golfers held on the Morgan River Course at the Dataw Island Club in Beaufort, South Carolina. The sophomore shot 159 (80-79) for the 36-hole tournament. Less than a week later, Kitahara earned individual medalist honors at the University Athletic Association (UAA) Championships. She shot a school record two-round score of 158 (82-76) on the par-72, 5,900-yard course at the Red Tail Country Club in Sorrento, Florida.

A week following the UAA Championships, Kitahara helped the Tartans to a 13th-place showing at the 2016 Jekyll Island Collegiate on the 5,801-yard, par-72 Indian Mounds Golf Club on Jekyll Island with a school record team score of 990.  The 54-hole event featured 23 Division III teams including 10 ranked in the top 25 nationally. During the three-day event, Kitahara broke two school records, as she carded a one-under par 71 in the second round of play and finished the tournament with a 226 (76-71-79) to tie for ninth-place in a field of 120 golfers.

Kitahara started the spring season with an average of 77.6 in seven rounds during the month of March and currently has an average of 79.9 through 13 rounds this year with six top-10 finishes and three individual medalist honors.
