NYU Places Third at Jekyll Island Invitational

The New York University women's golf team, ranked #12 by GolfStat.com, finished play at the 54-hole Jekyll Island Women's Collegiate Invitational, which was hosted at the Jekyll Island Golf Club by Oglethorpe University in Jekyll Island, GA, from Friday-Sunday, March 18-20.

NYU placed third out of 23 teams with an overall score of 921 (310-301-310). The Violets finished behind tournament winner #7 Sewanee (902) and second-place #22 Whitman College (914).

"It was a pretty good day for NYU golf in a very tough event," said NYU Head Coach Todd Kolean. "Jenni settled down on the back nine today and had a great finish. After Saturday, Alyssa had a great comeback round and Phoebe was solid all weekend, as well." 

Jenni Bluetling led the Violets all weekend long and finished in third place out of 120 golfers with a three-round score of 222 (75-71-76).

Alyssa Poentis led NYU on Sunday with a third-round 74 and finished the tournament in a tie for 11th at 228 (74-80-74). Catherina Li closed out the top three for the Violets and tied for 14th at 230 (78-75-77).

"I'm really proud of all the girls for this early-season success," continued Kolean.

HIGHLIGHTS:

- Kristin Lee tied for 55th at 248 (84-75-89).

- Phoebe Zhao tied for 58th place overall with a three-round score of 250 (83-84-83).
