NYU Ties Program Record for Lowest Single Round

NYU Ties Program Record for Lowest Single Round

From NYU Athletics

New York University's women's golf team finished Round One of the St. Lawrence Invitational in first place (300). The tournament is being held Saturday and Sunday, September 5-6, in Canton, NY. Nine teams are competing in this weekend's tournament.

The Violets shot 300 overall, putting them 28 strokes ahead of second-place SUNY Cortland. This score ties the NYU program record for lowest team single round, which was set last season.

Sophomore Angela Yang shot a one-under 71 during the first day of competition, tying the current NYU record for lowest single individual round, which was held by Elaine Tse. Yang is in first place of the 50 competitors.

"We had a really great first tournament. Yang is back after a year away and she played some fantastic golf," said Head Coach Todd Kolean. "Poentis shot a 76, continuing on with her great national finish from last year. Along with Lee, who shot 75, those three returners from last year's national team were outstanding today."

HIGHLIGHTS:

- Sophomore Kristin Lee is currently tied for third place after shooting a 75.

- Sophomore Alyssa Poentis shot a 76 to finish the first day of competition in fifth place.

- Freshmen Jenni Bluetling (78) and Catherina Li (79) placed sixth and tied for seventh place, respectively.

"All five girls playing in the 70's bodes really well with where the program is going to go for the rest of the year," added Kolean.
