New York University's women's golf team won the St. Lawrence Invitational in its first competition of the season. The tournament was held Saturday and Sunday, September 5-6, in Canton, NY, and was hosted by St. Lawrence University.

Nine teams competed in this weekend's tournament.

The Violets shot 594 overall, putting them 56 strokes ahead of second-place SUNY Cortland (650). This score broke the NYU program record for lowest team 36-hole tournament, which was set last season at 620 strokes. After the Violets shot 300 on Day One, the squad lowered that number to 294 on Day Two, breaking the NYU record for lowest team single-round score, which was set at 300 last season.

Sophomore Kristin Lee shot 145 overall (75-70), setting new school records for lowest individual single-round score and lowest 36-hole tournament score.

"Lee had an awesome round with no mistakes at all," said Head Coach Todd Kolean.

HIGHLIGHTS:

- Sophomore Angela Yang shot 78, finishing the tournament with an overall score of 149. Yang tied for second place with St. Lawrence's Claire O'Neil.

- Freshmen Jenni Bluetling (78-72) and Catherina Li (79-74) finished in fourth and fifth place, respectively.

"Our freshmen got their nerves out of the way yesterday, and they both had really solid rounds today," Kolean explained.

- Sophomore Alyssa Poentis ended the tournament in sixth place with an overall score of 155 (76-79).

"Poentis shot 79 today, and it's really great to have a team that can really back her up on a day when she isn't her best," added Kolean. "Overall, it was a great day."
