NYU Completes First Round at UAA Championship in Second Round

From NYU Athletics

The New York University women's golf team, ranked #12 by GolfStat.com, began first-round play at the University Athletic Association (UAA) Championship on Saturday, March 12, at the Red Tail Golf Course in Sorrento, FL.

The Violets finished their opening round with a total of 327 strokes and trail only #7 Washington University-St. Louis (322).

Alyssa Poentis led NYU with a team-low-tying round of 78, followed by Kristin Lee's 81. Competing as an individual, Mikaela Santos tied a career best with a 78, as well. Poentis and Santos are tied for second place individually, while Lee is in fifth.

"We are obviously a little rusty, especially on and around the greens. This is really the first time we've been outdoors," said NYU Head Coach Todd Kolean. "With the other teams being down here the last week, we're a little behind. Mikaela and Alyssa had really good opening rounds. We look forward to chasing down Washington tomorrow."

HIGHLIGHTS:

Phoebe Zhao and Catherina Li each finished with rounds of 84.

Jenni Bluetling chalked up an 85.

 - Savannah Graham (87), Rose Friedman (88), Michelle Dicke (98), Elizabeth Valdes (98) also competed as individuals.
