Samantha Haubenstock of Washington University Recognized by WGCA as Freshman of the Year

Freshman Samantha Haubenstock of the No. 14-ranked Washington University in St. Louis women's golf team was named the Women's Golf Coaches Association (WGCA) Division III Freshman of the Year on Tuesday.

Haubenstock is the second recipient of the WGCA DIII Freshman of the Year honor in WashU history. Olivia Lugar was first Bear to win the award during the 2012-13 season. Haubenstock's freshman season ended with a fifth place finish and school record low score of 299 (74-76-76-73) at the NCAA Division III Women's Golf Championships in Houston, Texas.

She concluded the season with the sixth best scoring average in the country, 75.88, while winning three tournament titles. In addition, Haubenstock placed within the top-five of five other tournaments. She received several accolades for her outstanding freshman campaign including: WGCA Second Team All-American, WGCA First Team All-Region, University Athletic Association (UAA) Player of the Year, UAA Freshman of the Year, all-UAA First Team and all-UAA All-Tournament.
