The New York University women's golf team captured first place at the St. Lawrence University Invitational this weekend in Canton, NY. The team's score of 299 on Sunday, September 4, was the second-lowest single-round score in program history.

The Violets shot 599 overall (second-lowest-ever 36-hole tournament score) to put them ahead of second-place SUNY Cortland (638), by 39 strokes. Ithaca College and Hamilton College tied for third place, each shooting 645 over the weekend.

"We played really well!" Assistant Coach Meaghan Kenny expressed. "It was a strong team effort. The whole team really held together to win this one."

The top three individual finishers were all Violets. Freshman Arisa Kimura led that group shooting 75 on Sunday and 146 over the weekend to claim the championship title. One stroke behind was junior Alyssa Poentis who broke the school record for lowest single-round individual score (69). Freshman Patty Treevichaphan followed in third with a final score of 148.

"Arisa played phenomenally, and she didn't even know how well she was playing today," said Kenny. "She won her first college tournament in her first time out. We have a strong freshmen class and a strong team."

HIGHLIGHTS:

- Sophomore Jenni Bluetling finished in fifth after shooting 77 on Sunday.

- Right behind Bluetling, in a three-way tie for sixth, was junior Kristin Lee
