Violets in First After Day One of Vassar Invitational

From NYU Athletics

The New York University women's golf team took part in the Vassar College Invitational at the Duchess Country Club in Poughkeepsie, NY, on Saturday, April 8.

Despite facing a wet course, NYU shot 317 and leads after one round. Ithaca College trails by eight strokes in second.

The Violets were led by their veterans on day one, with junior Kristin Lee leading the charge with her score of 77. The Irvine, CA, native found herself in a tie for fourth. Sophomore Jenni Bluetling followed one stroke behind (78) to finish in sixth.

"They played pretty well," said Assistant Coach Meaghan Kenny. "They had a couple of rough holes, but they bounced back. I am really proud of how Kristin played after her rough spring break. They aren't super happy with how they played, but I am thrilled."

HIGHLIGHTS:

- Freshman Arisa Kimura and junior Alyssa Poentis placed into a three-way tie for ninth by shooting 81 on day one.

- Freshman Patty Treevichaphan shot an 83 to tie for 18th to round out the Violets.

"Overall, we played pretty well, especially coming off a week where we didn't get to see a golf course due to the weather," said Kenny. "I can see us still going for the win tomorrow. We all know what we need to improve on. They are all ready to go out there, drop some strokes and hopefully take home a trophy."
