NYU Stands Third After Day One at Wellesley

From NYU Athletics

The New York University women's golf team are in third place after the first day of competition at the Ann S. Batchelder Invitational, which is being hosted by Wellesley College at the Nehoiden Golf Club in Wellesley, MA, on Saturday and Sunday, September 17-18.

Shooting an overall score of 316, NYU trails leader Amherst College (307) and Williams College (309).

"I'm impressed with Amherst," said Head Coach Brad Johnson. "They came out of nowhere. We played well too, though. We have a young team, and it's tough without one of our top players."

The Violets played without sophomore Jenni Bluetling, who is dealing with an injury.

Junior Kristin Lee and freshman Ashley Tsoi led the way for the Violets. The duo finds themselves in a four-way tie for ninth with a score of 78. They trail current leader Morgan Yurosek, a freshman from Amherst, by five strokes.

Forty-three golfers from seven teams competed at the 5,860-yard golf course.

HIGHLIGHTS:

- Sophomore Patty Treevichaphan is tied for 13th after shooting 79 on the day.

- Junior Alyssa Poentis found herself in a three-way tie for 17th (81).

- Freshman Arisa Kimura shot an 84 to tie for 24th.

- Senior captain Mikaela Santos tied for 27th (85), she competed as an individual.

"We'll see what we can do tomorrow," addedJohnson. "We just need one low score and we are right back in it."
