New York University's women's golf team will be one of 22 squads to compete at this year's NCAA Division III Golf Championship. The four-round competition will take place from Tuesday-Friday, May 9-12, at the Bay Oaks Country Club in Houston, TX. The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor and Harris County-Houston Sports Authority will serve as the hosts for the week.
Ranked #4 in the nation by Golfstat.com, the Violets will send a contingent of five players to compete at Bay Oaks: juniors Alyssa Poentis and Kristin Lee, sophomores Jenni Bluetling and Patty Treevichaphan, and freshman Arisa Kimura.
The fivesome has combined for 22 top-five finishes and six individual victories in 10 total events this season. In contrast, the five golfers have finished outside of the top 20 a total of only four times.
The Violets won the University Athletic Association (UAA) Championship in March. Treevichaphan claimed the individual title, shooting 159 following a tournament-best 75 in the final round. She received UAA Most Valuable Player honors, with Poentis and Bluetling joining her as First Team All-Tournament selections.
This will be NYU's third-consecutive appearance at the NCAA Championship. Last season, the Violets took 13th place with Poentis (T-39th), Bluetling (T-53) and Lee (T-57) as the team's top finishers.
Tee off for the NYU golfers will begin at 12:55pm (CT) on Tuesday and 7:45am (CT) on Wednesday. Tee times for Thursday's and Friday's rounds will be determined after the first two rounds are completed.
