Bears Lead Field After Strong Round One at IWU Fall Classic

The Washington University in St. Louis women's golf program finished round one of the Illinois Wesleyan University Fall Classic with a six-stroke lead after shooting 301 on Saturday at the Ironwood Golf Course.

WashU leads the 12 team field after day one. DePauw (307), Illinois Wesleyan (310), North Central College (312) and Grinnell College (313) finished in the top five. Illinois Wesleyan (B), Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology, Carroll University (Wis.), Aurora University, Monmouth College (Ill.), Illinois College and Millikin University rounded out the field.

The Bears were led by freshman Samantha Haubenstock's even-72 score, which tied her for second place individually behind Grinnell College's Vidushi Sinha's two-under-70 round one score. Chloe DiPetrillo tied with teammate Hanna Jia for fifth individually with a two-over-74.

Four Bears from the starting lineup shot below 80 to finish within the top 15 golfers, including Jessica Wibawa (77) and Erin Drolet (78). Sabrina Ho also shot a 79 individually.

The final round of the IWU Fall Classic will conclude with 18 holes Sunday beginning at 9 a.m.
