Carnegie Mellon Women’s Golf Receives Academic Accolades for 2017-18 Season; Ranked Second in Division III

The 2017-18 Carnegie Mellon University women's golf team received academic recognition from the Women's Golf Coaches Association (WGCA) on Wednesday when the association announced the top 25 teams with the highest team GPA for each division. The Tartans ranked second among NCAA Division III institutions and 18th across all divisions. The 13-member Cardinal and Gray team finished the year with a cumulative grade point average of 3.719.

The University of Nebraska Omaha (Division I) was named the recipient of the 2017-18 WGCA All-Scholar Team GPA Award. The award recognizes the women's collegiate golf program with the highest collective average team GPA that includes all of the team's student-athletes for the 2017-18 season. Omaha's six team members had an average GPA of 3.949. Leading Division II was Lindenwood University, as the team's eight members averaged a 3.886 GPA, while Ithaca College led Division III with a 3.801 average GPA. The bombers fielded a six-player group.

The Women's Golf Coaches Association, founded in 1983, is a non-profit organization representing women's collegiate golf coaches. The WGCA was formed to encourage the playing of college golf for women in correlation with a general objective of education in accordance with the highest tradition of intercollegiate competition. Today, the WGCA represents over 600 coaches throughout the U.S. and is dedicated to educating, promoting and recognizing both its members and the student-athletes they represent.
