From Carnegie Mellon University Athletics
The Carnegie Mellon University women's golf team, competing in its first NCAA Championship in only four years of varsity competition, finished play at the 2018 NCAA Division III Championships on Friday with a fifth-place finish after a 72-hole score of 1286 (321-318-320-327). The four-day championships were played on the par-73, 5,804-yard El Campeón Course at the Mission Inn Resort & Club in Howey-in-the-Hills, Florida. Claremont Mudd Scripps and Williams College were tied atop the team leader board at the conclusion of four rounds with a 1261. Claremont Mudd Scripps claimed the national title following a playoff.
Freshman Charlotte Simpson (Towson, Md./Bryn Mawr School) and junior Carly Jordan (San Juan Capistrano, Calif./St. Margaret's Episcopal School) tied for 18th individually with a four round score of 320. On Friday, Jordan fired an 81 while Simpson shot an 82. Simpson posted rounds of 73, 81, 84 and 82 while Jordan carded rounds of 80, 82, 77 and 81 for the event
Senior Summer Kitahara (Greenwich, Conn./Rye Country Day) ended her collegiate career with a round of 84 on Friday. The senior shot a 324 (89-75-76-84) at the championships and placed tied for 32nd.
Freshman Catherine Tianhong Yu (Dalian, China/Walnut) and sophomore Yedin Lui (Idaho Falls, Idaho) turned in rounds of 80 and 84 on the last day of competition and finished with a 334 (84-87-83-80) and 335 (84-80-87-84), respectively.
