Tartans Currently in Second Place at NCAA Preview; Tartans Also Host Carnegie Mellon Fall Shootout

The Carnegie Mellon University women's golf team opened play in the first round of the 2017 NCAA Division III Preview held at the par-73, 5,800 -yard El Campeón Course at the Mission Inn Resort & Club in Howey-in-the-Hills, Florida. The Tartans currently are in second place in a field of 14 teams after carding a 322.

Freshman Charlotte Simpson (Towson, Md./Bryn Mawr School) leads the Tartans with an opening round of four-over par 77 and is tied for eighth individually. Freshman Catherine Tianhong Yu (Dalian, China/Walnut) carded an 80 in her first collegiate round and is tied for 16th.

Senior Summer Kitahara (Greenwich, Conn./Rye Country Day) and sophomore Yedin Lui (Idaho Falls, Idaho) opened round one with scores of 82 and 83, respectively, and junior Carly Jordan (San Juan Capistrano, Calif./St. Margaret's Episcopal School) carded an 85.

Carnegie Mellon had one individual compete at the preview, as sophomore Lavonca Davis (Pickerington, Ohio) shot an 87.

The Tartans also hosted the Carnegie Mellon Fall Shootout Saturday and Sunday, September 16-17 at The Links at Spring Church in Apollo, Pennsylvania. The Tartans entered a 'B' Team in the shootout and finished with a 682 (348-334) to place fourth in a field of eight teams on the par-72, 5,863-yard course.

Freshmen Cristina Pullen (Brownsville, Texas/Veterans Memorial) and Shanice Lam (Hong Kong, China/International Christian School) led the Tartans in Apollo, as each carded a 166. Pullen fired back-to-back rounds of 83 while Lam recorded rounds of 84 and 82. Senior Isabelle Tseng (Plainsboro, N.J./West Windsor-Plainsboro South) carded a 176 (92-84) and senior Ginger Glass (Hollidaysburg, Pa.) fired a 177. Glass opened play on Saturday with a career-best round of 89 before topping it on Sunday with an 88.

Sophomore Sanchi Gupta (Cincinnati, Ohio/Ursuline Academy) shot a 179 (94-88) and freshman Malina Rufo (Wellesley, Mass.) ended the event with a 181 (92-89).
