NYU Finishes Second at Jekyll Island

The New York University women's golf team secured a second-place finish Sunday in the Jekyll Island Women's Collegiate Invitational. They were able to rise one spot in the standings in every round of the tournament. The competition took place from Friday-Sunday, March 16-18, on Jekyll Island, GA. 

Overall, 23 teams and 120 golfers participated. 

NYU, who sat third heading into the final round, posted a team score of 302 on Sunday, its lowest of the tournament. The Violets, currently ranked #1 in the nation by Golfstat, finished second with a total score of 918, behind only Claremont Mudd Scripps (913).

Individually, Jenni Bluetling had the best score of Sunday's round, shooting a one-under-par 71. Her three-day total of 226 was good for fifth place.

"Jenni was fantastic," said Head Coach Brad Johnson. "She had two birdies and a bogey for the round and overall a really good tournament."

Alyssa Poentis (230, 76-77-77) shot a 77 for the second consecutive day and finished in 14th place. Jessica Wu (231, 77-80-74) finished one place below in a tie for 15th. Patty Treevichaphan (236, 79-76-81) and Arisa Kimura (237, 81-76-80) finished tied for 31st and 33rd places, respectively.
