NYU Takes Lead at Mount Holyoke Invitational

The New York University women's golf team is in first place after day one of the Mount Holyoke Invitational. The two-day tournament is taking place at The Orchards Golf Course in South Hadley, MA, on Saturday and Sunday, September 23-24.

NYU shot 305 on the day and has a two-stroke lead over second-place Williams College (307).

NYU freshman Ashley Lung, playing as an individual, is tied for first with Williams' Cordelia Chan after shooting a two-over par 74. NYU's low team scorer is Patty Treevichaphan, who shot 75 and is tied for third. Arisa Kimura and Alyssa Poentis are tied for fifth after both shot 76.

Rounding out the NYU scorers are Jenni Bluetling (78, 11th place) and another freshman, Navika Kuchakulla (83, 28th place).

Overall, 18 teams and 101 individuals are competing.

"We have two freshmen who are phenomenal, and add that to what we had last year and that's pretty good," said Head Coach Brad Johnson. "I have seven players who can be number one from week to week."

OTHER HIGHLIGHTS:

- The Violets have won both of their competitions so far this season (St. Lawrence Invitational, NCAA Division III Fall Preview).

- NYU finished third at Mount Holyoke last season.

"Williams is a team we've battled for years. and I see that nothing has changed so far in this tournament," Johnson added. "I will be happy to see us play as well tomorrow as we did today. The girls are really killing it."
