Violets Post Low Round on Day Two of NCAA Championship to Remain in Third Place

From NYU Athletics

The New York University women's golf team, currently ranked #3 in the nation by Golfstat.com, has reached the halfway mark of play at the NCAA Championship, which is being held Tuesday-Friday, May 8-11, at the Mission Inn Resort & Club at Howey-in-the-Hills, FL.

The Violets posted the low round on day two of the tournament with a score of 316 and sit in third place after 36 holes with a 638 total on the par-73, 5,804-yard El Campeon Golf Course.

Second-ranked Claremont-Mudd-Scripps, who also shot 316 on Wednesday, leads the tournament with a two-round score of 628. #4-ranked Williams College sits in second at 633, five strokes ahead of NYU. Tenth-ranked Carnegie Mellon University (639) and #1 George Fox University (647) round out the top five.

NYU's top individual performer was Navika Kuchakulla for the second day in a row. The freshman followed up Tuesday's six-over-par 79 with an even-par 73 on Wednesday and is in a tie for first place individually with Margaret Loncki (Claremont-Mudd-Scripps) through 36 holes.

"Navika was awesome today," said Head Coach Brad Johnson. "She carded the lowest score of all 130 golfers and helped keep us in the top three, while cutting into the lead."

The Violets' next lowest round was produced by Arisa Kimura, who shot 80 for the second-consecutive day and sits in a tie for 20th place.

Jenni Bluetling and Alyssa Poentis shot an 81 and 82 respectively and currently sit in ties for 45th and 35th place, respectively.

NYU's fifth golfer, Patty Treevichaphan, shot an 84 on Wednesday and is in a tie for 42nd place through 36 holes.

"We had a great round today, but we still have plenty of work to do over the final 36 holes," added Johnson. "We are in this thing and I'm confident that if we play to our potential, we can still win it."
