The New York University women's golf team won its second consecutive tournament, finishing in first place at the 2017 NCAA Division III Fall Preview, which was held at the Mission Inn Golf Club in Howey-In-The-Hills, FL, on Sunday and Monday, September 17-18. The same course will also be the site of the 2018 DIII Women's Golf National Championship in May.
NYU, which led by 24 strokes following Sunday's first round, coasted to the title, winning the event by 33 strokes with a two-day score of 606 (298-308). Carnegie Mellon University finished in second place (639), while Washington & Lee University (641), Berry College (642) and Huntingdon College (643) rounded out the top five.
"We are pretty strong right now. Make no mistake about it," said NYU Head Coach Brad Johnson, "With that said, there is a lot of season left and we have plenty of areas to improve upon."
Sophomore Arisa Kimura (148, 70-78) tied for the individual championship with Berry's Jorie Hadapp (148, 73-75).
"Arisa was unbelievable on Sunday and backed it up today," added Johnson. "She led wire-to-wire, which is extremely difficult to do."
Hadapp made birdie on Monday's 17th hole to pull into a tie.
NYU freshman Navika Kuchakulla ended her second-career tournament with a score of 149 (73-76) and placed third in the field of 77.
"Navika was one of our top recruits and she's really proving herself," exclaimed Johnson. "I honestly believe she can do better, and I'm excited to watch her progress."
