The New York University women's golf team finished its first of two rounds at the Williams Invitational, which is being hosted by Williams College at the Taconic Golf Club in Williamstown, MA, on Saturday and Sunday, October 7 and 8.

NYU, which is ranked #1 in the most recent Golfstat.com poll, finished the day in fourth place of 16 teams after shooting a 315 on the day. Williams leads the event after shooting a 306, while Amherst College (307) and Middlebury College (313) round out the top three.

Leading the way for the Violets on day one was Ashley Lung, who shot a six-over-par 77, while teammate Alyssa Poentis finished with a seven-over-par 78. Lung is tied for eighth place, just four shots behind the leader, Jessica Jeong of Amherst. There are 94 players competing in the tournament.

"We had a difficult time around the greens today," said Assistant Coach Meaghan Kenny. "It was Ashley's first time seeing the course and I thought she played very well."

Other Highlights:

- Arisa Kimura and Navika Kuchakulla each shot a nine-over-par 80 to round out the team scoring for the Violets.

- Jenni Bluetling, who was NYU's fifth team member, shot a 13-over-par 84.

- Patty Treevichaphan (eight-over-par 79) and Kristin Lee (11-over par 81) competed as individuals.

"Overall, I was pleased with the way we played today, but I know we can definitely improve tomorrow," concluded Kenny.
