NYU Finishes Second at Williams Invitational

The New York University women's golf team finished play at the Williams Invitational on Sunday, October 8. The two-day, 36-hole event was played at the Taconic Golf Club in Williamstown, MA, on Saturday and Sunday, October 7 and 8.

NYU, which was ranked #1 in the most recent Golfstat.com poll, finished the 16-team event tied for second place with #9 Amherst College. Both squads shot a two-day score of 624, which was 12 shots behind host and third-ranked Williams College. #12 Middlebury College (628) and Ithaca College (651) rounded out the top five.

"We played much better tee-to-green today," said Assistant Coach Meaghan Kenny. "It's a tough course with challenging greens and it was great to see us improve from yesterday."

Alyssa Poentis was NYU's top finisher, shooting a two-day score of 153 (78-75) to finish in fourth place among 94 competitors. She was in 10th place after the first 18 holes.

Arisa Kimura moved six spots up the leaderboard to finish the event in eighth place. The sophomore carded a five-over-par 76 on Sunday to finsh with a 36-hole score of 156.

Also playing as a part of the Violets' fivesome were Navika Kuchakulla (80-78-158; T-12th place), Ashley Lung (77-85-162; T-24th place) and Jenni Bluetling (84-80-164; T-30th place).

Patty Treevichaphan competed as an individual and finished tied for 24th place (79-83-162).

The Violets return to action next weekend as they close the fall portion of their schedule by hosting the NYU Fall Inivtational at Forest Hill Field Club in Bloomfield, NJ.

"We're really looking forward to our home event next weekend," added Kenny.
