Gigi Garcia and Samantha Haubenstock Lead Bears on Day One at Illinois Wesleyan Classic

The Washington University in St. Louis women's golf team finished day one of the Illinois Wesleyan University Fall Classic tied for second place in a 14 team competition with a first round final score of 305 on Saturday.

WashU is tied for second place with University of Wisconsin-Whitewater while both teams will attempt to surpass day one leader University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh (304) during tomorrow's action. 

Freshman Gigi Garcia and sophomore Samantha Haubenstock both fired two-over par 74's on day one of the classic, which tied both Bears for third place individually. 

"It was a good day overall for the Bears," shared head coach Ellen Port. "Tomorrow we need to capitalize on our good shots and minimize our mistakes. We managed our game well today and hopefully we will be able to take what we learned from today's round and apply tomorrow."

Junior Chloe DiPetrillo also scored in the 70s with a five-over par 77 as sophomore Emily Carnes rounded out the scoring for WashU with 80 strokes on day one. Sabrina Ho also finished with a round one score of 80 as the junior competed individually.
