The Washington University in St. Louis women's golf team concluded the Jekyll Island Invitational in eighth place among 23 teams to compete while finishing the three-day event with a total score of 947 at the Jekyll Island Golf Club.
WashU shot a 324 on the third and final round while totaling 947 (310, 313, 324) while No. 4-ranked Claremont Mudd Scripps picked up the tournament win while totaling 913 (302, 301, 310). No. 2-ranked New York worked its way up to a runner-up finish 918 (310, 306, 302).
Freshman Gigi Garcia finished tied for fifth overall as she posted the Bears best third round score of 76. She totaled 14 pars on the day and totaled a three round score of 226 (75, 75, 76). Garcia tied for the second most pars during the tournament with 40.
"Gigi (Garcia) has a very solid golf game and it carried her through three long rounds of golf this week," said head coach Ellen Port. "She hit a high percentage of fairways and greens and when she did get in a bit of trouble she managed it well."
Sophomore Samantha Haubenstock also fired in the 70s during the final round as she totaled a six-over 78 in route to tying for 12th individually. She had two birdies on Sunday while tying for third with nine in the tournament. Haubenstock averaged 4.92 strokes while finishing one-under on par-5 holes.
Rounding out the Bears lineup were sophomore Emily Carnes 242 (83, 77, 82), senior Erin Drolet 250 (78, 84, 88) and sophomore Angelica Harris 272 (89, 89, 94).
