Washington University Women’s Golf Ties for 10th at NCAA Championship

The No. 7-ranked Washington University in St. Louis women's golf team concluded competition at the NCAA Division III National Championships by tying for 10th place after a 72-hole tournament score of 1,312 at the El Campeon Golf Course at Mission Inn Resort & Club.

The Bears capped off the 2017-18 season with a top-10 finish and earned the first trip to nationals under head coach Ellen Port. WashU women's golf placed in the top-10 for the fifth time in school history, also doing so in 2015 (third), 2013 (sixth), 2014 (seventh) and 2011 (eighth).

No. 2 Claremont Mudd Scripps and No. 4 Williams concluded the four-day tournament with a tie score atop the leaderboard, 1,261 and were forced into a playoff on the 18th hole. Both teams tied on the original playoff hole before CMS claimed its first national title in program history.

WashU tied with No. 9-ranked DePauw with a four-day total of 1,312 (333, 332, 320, 327). The Bears were led by sophomore Second Team All-American Samantha Haubenstock's 15th place finish. She led WashU with a four-day total of 317 (80, 77, 77, 83). Haubenstock concluded the week with seven birdies and 41 pars.

Senior Erin Drolet improved every day of the tournament, culminating in a fourth round team-best score of five-over 78. She tied for 45th overall with a score of 332 (93, 82, 79, 78). Friday's score was keyed by steady play on both the front and back nine, as she shot two-over 38 on the front and three-over 40 on the back nine. Drolet had seven pars on the front and a birdie on the back.

Junior Chloe DiPetrillo matched her score from round one by firing an eight-over 81 on Friday. She fired a two-over par 39 out of the gate with a birdie and five pars. DiPetrillo tied for 49th place with a four-day total of 334 (81, 88, 84, 81).

Freshman Gigi Garcia concluded the tournament tied for 62nd place by totaling 343 strokes (87, 85, 80, 91). She birdied on the 14th hole Friday while shooting nine-over on both the front and back nine. Garcia totaled 31 pars during the week-long competition.

Sophomore Emily Carnes tied for 71st out of 130 golfers to compete at nationals. Carnes rallied from a nine-over 46 out of the gate to shoot three-over 39 on the front nine with six pars.
