NYU Completes Fall Season With Runner-Up Finish

NYU Completes Fall Season With Runner-Up Finish

From NYU Athletics

The New York University women's golf team completed its fall season with a second-place finish at its NYU Fall Invitational, which was played at the Forest Hill Field Club in Bloomfield, NJ, on Saturday and Sunday, October 13 and 14.

After shooting 305 on Saturday, the course was not as kind to the Violets on Sunday as they shot a collective 325. That performence opened the door for Williams College, as the Ephs shot 306 and won the title by 11 strokes over the Violets (319-330).

Amherst College (648), Mount Holyoke College (685) and Union College (718) rounded out the top five.

Overall, seven teams and 43 golfers participated.

"Not a good way for us to end this portion of our season, but Williams has a great team and they showed it today," said Head Coach Brad Johnson.

Jessica Wu was NYU's top finisher over the two days, following up her three-over par 75 on Saturday with an 81 on Sunday and an overall fourth-place showing. Right behind her was Patty Treevichaphan, who tied for fifth place with a two-day total of 157 (76-81).

Jenni Bluetling shot a tournament-best one-over-par 73 on Saturday and an 86 on Sunday to finish in a tie for 10th place (159).

Isabel Herrera, playing as an individual, shot a team-best 76 on Sunday and finished in a tie for eighth place (158)

"We have a strong team and had a great fall season," Johnson explained. The Violets won three tournaments during their abbreviated fall schedule. "This is a bit of a disappointment, but I'm sure we'll come back strong in the spring."
