NYU Five Strokes Off Lead After Opening Round of NCAA Championship

The New York University women's golf team currently sits in seventh place after the first of four rounds at the 2019 NCAA Division III Golf Championships, which are taking place at Bay Oaks Country Club in Houston, TX, from Tuesday, May 14 - Friday, May 17.

NYU shot a 311 (+23) on day one of the 25-team tournament and remains well within striking distance of the team leader, University of Redlands, which shot a 306 (+18) on Tuesday. 

Jessica Wu was is the top Violet after shooting a first-round score of 74 (+2) on Tuesday. Wu sits in a tie for third place out of 131 golfers after a round which saw her produce 11 pars, three bogeys, three birdies, and a double bogey. The three birdies tied teammate Arshia Mahant and three others for the third most by any golfer on the day.

Not far behind Wu is Patty Treevichaphan, who is tied for sixth place after carding an 18-hole score of 75 (+3). Treevichaphan, the only senior competing for NYU in Houston, made 12 pars, three bogeys, two birdies, and one double bogey. 

Bailey Plourde of Central College sits atop the individual leaderboard following a one-under-par 71 in the opening round.
