The No. 9-ranked Washington University in St. Louis women's golf team improved on its opening round by firing a 317 on day two of the 2019 NCAA Division III National Championships Wednesday in Houston.
The four-day, 72-hole event is being played on a par-72, 5,889-yard layout at Bay Oaks Country Club.
WashU sits in 11th place with a two-day score of 636 (319-317), and is 23 shots shy of leader New York University (311-302, 613).
Nina Kouchi (Grinnell), Emily Salamy (Rhodes) and Ziyi Wang (Carleton) are tied for the individual lead with a 5-over 149.
Senior Chloe DiPetrillo and freshman Julia Dai led the way on day two with a pair of six-over par 78s on day two. The duo sits in a tie for 29th place with a score of 157. Dai fired an even par 36 on the opening nine, closing out with two birdies on the final three holes.
Freshman Lydia Tsai rallied from a slow start playing the final 12 holes at 2-over to fire a 79 on day two. Tsai is tied for 15th place with a two-day score of 153 (74-79).
Junior Emily Carnes improved five shots from day one with a 10-over par 82. She had her lone birdie on the day at the par-4, 365-yard ninth hole and is in a tie for 81st place (87-82, 169). Senior Sabrina Ho also improved with a 12-over 84 and is tied for 97th place (91-84, 175).
The NCAA held its "Folds of Honor" program during Wednesday's round. Each student-athlete played in honor of a fallen soldier. Folds of honor signs were also located on each tee box.
WashU is scheduled to tee off Thursday at 1:20 p.m. on hole 10, and are paired with No. 7 Rhodes and No. 17 Washington & Lee.
