Carnegie Mellon Women’s Golf Wins The Tartan Invitational; Field Included All UAA Teams

The Carnegie Mellon University women's golf team, ranked seventh nationally, hosted The Tartan Invitational on Tuesday at the historic Laurel Valley Golf Club in Ligonier, Pennsylvania, which is a par 72, 5,807 yard course. The event, which was supposed to be a two-day, 36-hole event was shorten to an 18-hole event on Tuesday because of inclement weather on Monday. The Tartans carded a 313 on Tuesday to win the 12-team invitational.

New York University, the nation's top ranked team, finished second with a score of 317. Ashley Lung from NYU was the individual medalist after carding a one-over par 73.

Junior Charlotte Simpson (Towson, Md./Bryn Mawr School) led the Tartans with a three-over par 75 to place tied for third in a field of 58 golfers. Sophomore Nadia Susanto (Irvine, Calif./Arnold O. Beckman) ended play with a 76 to place tied for fifth. Freshman Alexis Sudjianto (Charlotte, N.C./Charlotte Latin School) fired a round of 78 and tied for seventh.

Freshman Michelle Koo (Scottsdale, Ariz./BASIS Scottsdale Charter) entered the clubhouse with an 84 while senior Lavonca Davis (Pickerington, Ohio/Pickerington) finished with a 90.

Carnegie Mellon will be back on the links October 13-15 when the play in the Golfweek Fall Preview. The three-day evet is being held at the Sandestin Golf and Beach Resort's Baytowne Golf Club in Destin, Florida.

Laurel Valley Golf Club opened in 1959 and was designed by Dick Wilson and renovated by Arnold Palmer. Since its opening, the club has hosted two notable tournaments: the 1965 PGA Championship and the 1975 Ryder Cup. Other tournaments played on the course include the 1989 U.S. Senior Open, the 2001 Marconi Pennsylvania Classic and the 2005 Senior PGA Championship.
