The Emory women's golf team completed its opening round of action at the Chick-fil-A Collegiate Invitational on Monday. The event is being held at the 5,851-yard, par-72 Coosa Country Club course in Rome, Ga.

Following the conclusion of the first 18 holes, the Eagles are in 13th place out of 17 teams after recording 335 total strokes as a squad. Oglethorpe University, ranked 12th in the country among DIII teams according to the Women's Golf Coaches Association Poll, holds down the top spot at 304. Host Berry College and Milligan College both ended their first days of play 17-over-par, leaving them each one shot off the lead and tied for second. Shorter University needed a total of 306 strokes to work through the course and stands alone in fourth place. Spring Hill College and Birmingham-Southern College are tied for the fifth position at 19-over-par.

Ksheera Jalakam utilized 10 pars to post Emory's lowest score of the day, and her nine-over-par 81 puts her in a tie for 39th place out of 87 participants. Jessie Ji required one more stroke than Jalakam on Monday and finished with 82, which was good enough for 45th place. Lillian Knetter and Alice Acosta turned in score cards of 85 and 87, placing them in 59th and 66th, respectively.

Individually, Sarah Hsu (Oglethorpe), Claire Landry (Spring Hill), and Rylee Suttor (Centre), all produced first rounds of scratch golf and are in a deadlock for first going into the final round, which will be played on Tuesday.
