Defending NCAA Champion Violets Win Season Opener

The New York University women's golf team emerged victorious in the season-opening St. Lawrence Invitational. The two-round tournament took place at the Oliver D. Appleton Golf Course in Canton, NY, on Saturday and Sunday, September 7-8. 

With a score of 292 in round two of the tournament, the Violets found themselves on top of the leaderboard with an overall score of 581. The next closest school, Middlebury College, was 45 strokes behind NYU with 626, while Hamilton College came in third with 632.

Navika Kuchakulla (Orlando, FL/Lake Highland Preparatory School) was the only player in the tournament to finish under par (-2 with 142) claiming first place overall. Also cracking the top 10 for the Violets were Ashley Lung (Henderson, NV/Coronado), who finished in fourth with 147, and Camilla Chung (San Francisco, CA/St. Ignatian College Prep), who tied for fifth after shooting 148.

"We are very happy with how our student-athletes performed the past two days," said Assistant Coach Jack Kurtenbach. "We had a wide range of experience out there this weekend, but you wouldn't have been able to tell from the look of it. We're really proud of our freshmen for that."

Also cracking the top 10 were Arisa Kimura (Bethesda, MD/Stone Ridge School of the Sacred Heart), who shot 149 and finished tied for seventh, and Isabel Herrera (Wellington, FL/American Heritage School Boca/Delray), who ended ninth overall with 151. Fellow Violet Jessica Wu (Langley, BC/Mountain Secondary School) placed 12th after shooting 158.
