Washington University Claims Rhodes Classic Title

The No. 9-ranked Washington University in St. Louis women's golf team claimed the Rhodes Classic title by defeating No. 7 and host Rhodes College by nine strokes Sunday at the Links of Galloway in Memphis. 

WashU shot a two-day total of 574 (281-293), which shattered the 36-hole record of 588 set at the IWU Fall Classic in 2018. 

The victory for Mary Swanson was the sixth in two seasons at head coach.

Senior Samantha Haubenstock (66-73) and freshman Annie Mascot (71-68) earned co-medalist honors by firing a two-day total of 139. Mascot fired the low round Sunday with a 68, and it was tied for the second lowest round of the tourney. The duo also broke the 36-hole school record by one stroke, previously held by Olivia Lugar (140, 2014-15).

Senior Emily Carnes also earned All-Tournament Team honors by placing fifth with a 147 (71-76). 

Freshmen Alena Lindh (seventh, 73-76, 149), Emmy Sammons (12th, 76-78, 154), Helen Ye (14th, 80-76, 156) and Emma Lee (15th, 79-78, 157) also had top-15 finishes for WashU.

Carnes (15th hole, 465-yard Par 5) and Ye (sixth hole, 369-yard par 4) had eagles on the day.
