Washington University Tops William Woods in I-70 Dual

The No. 9-ranked Washington University in St. Louis women's golf team opened the 2019-20 season with a 15-shot victory over NAIA William Woods University at the I-70 Dual Saturday at Meadow Lake Acres Country Club in New Bloomfield, Mo.

WashU fired a 26-over par 314, while William Woods shot a 329. 

Freshman Annie Mascot shot a three-over 75 to earn co-medalist honors with Maria Zrodowska of William Woods. Mascot shot an even-par 36 on the front with a birdie on the par-5 fifth hole, and then fired a three-over 39 on the back. 

Senior Samantha Haubenstock was third with a four-over 77, while senior Emily Carnes and freshmen Emma Lee and Alena Lindh tied for fifth with a nine-over 81.

Freshman Emmy Sammons (82, ninth place), freshman Helen Ye (84, ninth place) and sophomore Rachel Rhee (87, 11th place) also competed for the Bears.

The victory for Mary Swanson was the fifth in two seasons at head coach.

WashU returns to action on Saturday-Sunday, Sept. 7-8, at the Rhodes Classic in Memphis.
