From NYU Athletics
The New York University wrestling team has been honored by the
National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) with a 2013-14 NWCA
Division III Scholar Team Award. In addition,
senior Chris Amro received the distinction of
NWCA Scholar All-American.
To qualify for the NWCA Scholar Team Award, a team must submit the
average cumulative grade point average for 10 wrestlers, of which
at least six must have competed at the NCAA Regional this year.
NYU's cumulative GPA of 3.45 is ninth-best in the nation.
NWCA Scholar All-Americans must carry a GPA of at least 3.20
(cumulative or last academic year) and meet one of the three
criteria: qualify for the NCAA Championships, place in top six at
the NCAA Regional Championship, or win more than 66 percent of
matches and wrestle in 50 percent of scheduled dates.
Amro, a biology major in NYU's College of Arts and Science, is
collecting the honor for the second consecutive year. He posted a
16-11 overall record this season, earning All-University Athletic
Association (UAA) accolades at 174 pounds and placing sixth in the
weight class at the NCAA East Regional Championships.
Overall, NYU posted a 10-9 record in dual matches in 2013-14,
captured its third consecutive UAA Championship and finished 31st
in the nation at the recently-competed NCAA Division III
Championships.
