Nate Lewis’ Pin Leads Spartans Past Washington & Jefferson, 27-22

Sophomore heavyweight Nate Lewis (Chagrin Falls, Ohio/Kenston) scored the winning points via pin as the Case Western Reserve University wrestling team won at Washington & Jefferson College, 27-22, on Friday at the Henry Memorial Center.

The Spartans even their dual match record at 6-6, while the Presidents fall to 2-11.

The Spartans trailed 22-9 after a W&J pin at 174. Freshman Ahmad Khatib (Bath, Ohio/Revere) then scored a pin in 2:25 versus Declan Haggerty to cut the deficit to 22-15. An injury default at 197 brought the count to 22-21, and Lewis clinched the match with his fourth pin of the season in a time of 6:59 against Yamil Cristobal-Perez.

Earlier in the match, freshman Aaran Gessic (Perry, Ohio/Perry) improved his record to a team-best 14-1 with a 7-0 decision at 149.

The Spartans are back in action next Friday and Saturday, January 30-31 at the Pete Willson Invitational hosted by Wheaton College in Wheaton, Illinois. Action is set to begin at 11:00 a.m. (CT) each day.
