The New York University wrestling team defeated host
Daniel Webster College 42-10 on Saturday, February 21, in Nashua,
NH. It was the final dual meet of the season for NYU.
The victory lifted NYU's dual-meet record to 21-3, signifying
the most wins in team history. The grapplers are currently ranked
#22 in the nation by the National Wrestling Coaches Association.
"It always feels good to win matches," said Head Coach Bruce
Haberli. "Our record shows that we've become a
consistently competitive program."
NYU, winners of 14 straight duals, earned victories in seven
of nine bouts against Daniel Webster. Nick
Matthews (141), Jon
Guarino (184) and Brian
Anserson (197) eached picked up first-period
pins. Additionally, Wayne Yuan (125), Austin
Day (133), Dylan Lojac (165),
and Sam Friedfeld (174) each earned wins by
forfeit.
"Most of the guys we brought with us won't be wrestling in
post-season," said Haberli. "This was an opportunity
for them to get more experience and finish on a positive note. We
are a young team and will be better off heading into next
season."
The squad will be back in action next Sunday, March 1, at the
NCAA East Regional hosted by Ferrum College in Roanoke, VA. A
contingent of 10 NYU wrestlers will take on competition from 18
other teams and attempt to earn bids to the NCAA Division III
National Championships.
