NYU Finishes 4-0 at Metro vs. PA Duals

From NYU Athletics

The New York University wrestling team went 4-0 at the Metro vs. PA Duals, which was hosted by King's College in Wilkes-Barre, PA, on Saturday, September 15.

The grapplers began the day with a 43-9 victory over the University of Scranton and followed that up with wins over Wilkes University (22-12), host King's (41-6) and Elizabethtown College (43-6).

"Our wrestlers had a very good day," said Senior Assistant Coach Corey Luce. "We came in attempting to win four matches and we won all of them in dominant fashion."

The victory over Wilkes was especially sweet after the Colonels held NYU scoreless at the 2013 Metro vs. PA Duals.

"Last year, Wilkes beat us 45-0," said Luce. "Facing them again, we knew we were in great shape and we really sent a message with our win."

Sophomore John Messinger led the way for NYU with four wins, all pins, at 165 pounds.

OTHER HIGHLIGHTS:

- In his first action this year, senior co-captain and 2014 All-American, Brandon Jones started off the season by winning all three of his matches at 141 pounds.

- Senior co-captain Patrick Sheehan went 4-0 on the day at 184 pounds, highlighted by a pin against Elizabethtown.

- Junior Brian Anderson went 4-0, including a pin against Elizabethtown at 197 pounds.

DJ Albonico won all four of his matches at 149 pounds.
