From University of Chicago Athletics

Five University of Chicago wrestlers placed in the top four of their respective weight classes at the Trine University Open on Saturday.

The Trine Open featured eight teams, including UChicago, Trine, John Carroll University, University of Indianapolis, North Central College, Olivet College, Baldwin-Wallace University and Muskegon Community College.

Junior Steven Franke was the top placer for the Maroons after taking second place at 184 pounds with a 2-1 record. Freshman Nick Ferraro earned the most wins on the day by going 6-1 at 174 pounds. He won the third-place match with a 16-0 technical fall, and he pinned three opponents along the way.

Sophomore Paul Papoutsis was also a third-place finisher at 165 pounds. He went 4-1 and won the third-place match 5-3. Senior Mario Palmisano pinned two opponents at 197 pounds and placed third at 4-1. Freshman Sunny Sharma was fourth at 125 pounds with a 3-2 record.
